That Deaf Guy

I recently stumbled across a superb comic created by Matt and Kay Daigle, an incredibly talented artist who has incorporated aspects of their life as a deaf person. It not only illustrates what it's like to be deaf but it also includes everyone else's perspective and experiences. They also feature sign language which is very well done. It's simply brilliant!

When I started reading them, I couldn't believe how similar they were to my own experiences. This was a wonderful gift to me since it made me realize that I wasn't alone with my day to day difficulties. As being the only one in my family with a profound hearing loss, I often struggle with a lot of things which most people don't understand or fully realize. This comic strip conveys some of these issues which is really nice to see.

Ironically, last week when I was in a store, a lady standing beside me began to apologize to me about the music coming from a nearby toy. I told her not to worry about it since I was deaf. I actually couldn't hear it. She began to laugh and gave me a big smile.  Then I saw this comic strip by the Deaf Guy...I couldn't believe what I was seeing! He went through the same thing!
