Supernatural

Most people know I'm a big fan of the tv series Supernatural, I've been watching it for years. Aside from the obvious reason that the two main characters, Dean and Sam, are portrayed by supremely handsome actors who are ridiculously talented and hilarious. It lifts me up especially at times when I need it. In a strange way, they are the glue that holds me together. The last thing anyone needs is having me unraveling when the stress gets to be too much.

When Jared Padalecki, the actor who plays Sam, revealed that he suffered from depression, I was very surprised. I couldn't fathom why someone with a successful career like him be struck down by this affliction. I've been through it myself, several times, and still have problems with it occasionally. It can hit anyone at anytime.  So it was an incredible revelation to have someone like him admit that he has problems too. Depression, like hearing loss, has a huge stigma attached to it. It's not until you've lived through it that you fully understand it. It's not easy to shake and takes even longer to overcome. And truthfully, even when we move forward in life, it's always lurking in the back of our minds, hiding in the shadows.

Bravo Jared for having the courage to be honest about your difficulties and sharing it with the rest of the world so that others don't feel so alone. I know it's not easy finding the strength to keep going. For me, stars and moons represent hope which is what I use to find my sense of solace.

This is a great little piece of advice from him:
"I don’t want somebody to wake up and say, “Don’t give up today — I hope this isn’t the day I get beaten down.” I want somebody to wake up and brush their teeth and think to themselves like, “Today’s not going to be easy. Today’s going to be a fight, but I’m going to fight.”

I highly encourage everyone to take a moment to read his insightful thoughts about his struggles. I learned a lot from him and hope that you get a chance to gain some invaluable insight into his life. It really opened my eyes as to what he must go through on a daily basis.

A great quote from Jared:
"I say constantly that there’s no shame in dealing with these things. There’s no shame in having to fight every day, but fighting every day, and presumably, if you’re still alive to hear these words or read this interview, then you are winning your war. You’re here."
