Renewed Hope

Posted by jennifer gibson on Wednesday, January 3, 2018, In : Jan 2018

So far I'm not impressed with the beginning of 2018. It has already been a frustrating week and it's only the second day of January.  Mind you, it has nothing to do with going back to my regular routine after a week-long holiday break. My body was screaming at me to take time off, wanting to heal some old injuries that came back with a vengeance. I took that opportunity to have some quiet time, do some reading and photography which I enjoy. This was a necessity so that I didn’t lose my mind...

Perspectives

Posted by jennifer gibson on Thursday, August 31, 2017, In : September 2017

I recently stumbled across one of my mother's articles that she had written in 1993 where she talks about living with a disability - I thought that this was worthwhile sharing. She was a strong and independent woman, working full time as a psychologist and raising two teenagers. It's an insightful perspective into her life at that time and still applies to this day.

While I was in high school, she had back surgery that left her with a permanent disability. No one really knows why her surgery...

What did you say?

Posted by jennifer gibson on Tuesday, January 19, 2016, In : 2016
I recently came across an article that reminded me of the importance of staying true to our heart. Following our dreams is more important than listening to someone trying to destroy it. Just because we have a hearing loss doesn't mean that we can't try.

For some reason, people seem to think that it's okay to offer unsolicited advice on my life. I've heard it all. Ironically. Don't get me wrong, some of those individuals genuinely thought that they were doing a good thing but in reality, it wa...

John Barrowman goes Deaf for a day

Posted by jennifer gibson on Monday, August 11, 2014,

Recently, actor John Barrowman, tackled the task of going Deaf for a day to learn what's it like to live in a world of silence. He was shocked to discover just how challenging it proved to be which left him feeling utterly exhausted by the end of the day.

I'm absolutely thrilled that he chose to give this a try, most people would wimp out at this opportunity for fear of being mocked or teased by their friends, peers or family members.  Even though their hearts may be in the right place, they...

Dreams

Posted by jennifer gibson on Tuesday, July 23, 2013,

Book 3 in the trilogy series, Destiny, has only been out for less than a week and I've already had several readers finish it and exclaim "Wow!" and "Loved it!".  Even thought it's geared towards teens and young adults with disabilities, many adult readers have really taken a shine to it.  Numerous people that I didn't think would be interested in it, have followed the series from the very beginning which is absolutely remarkable.  I had no idea that they were so supportive and keen on reading...

Upside down and inside out

Posted by jennifer gibson on Sunday, June 2, 2013,

As Ricky Martin would say in Living La Vida Loca, my life certainly feels like it's upside down and inside out these days.  It's one of those moments when you stop and say "this is insane!"  That's a sign, a big one, that changes have to be made.  And it's definitely happening.

I've been doing a lot of soul searching and realized that in order to move forward with my dreams and achieve my goals in life, I have to start looking elsewhere.  While it's a terrifying notion, it's also a thrilling...
